Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz is currently being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital after his health declined.

Riyaz was initially admitted to Tree Top Hospital on Monday over an undisclosed health issue. He was later transferred to Dharumavantha Hospital.

A senior police officer told Sun that his condition is improving following treatment.

Riyaz is a decorated police officer who has investigated a significant number of cases. He has played a crucial role in the investigation of a number of high-profile cases including the graft allegations against Yameen in the MMPRC case.

He completed his education in Canada.

Riyaz was dismissed from the Maldives Police Service in September 2017 during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration in light of various allegations against him.

The court, in December 2018, ruled that Riyaz was wrongfully dismissed and ordered his reinstatement. In March 2019, he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
