Paris Saint-Germain legend and former Nigerian national team icon Augustine Azuka "Jay-Jay" Okocha arrives in Maldives on Thursday on the official invitation of Ooredoo Maldives.
The football legend was given a warm traditional Maldivian welcome at Velana International Airport (VIA) upon arrival and escorted with a boduberu number.
Okocha, born August 14, 1973 is a Nigerian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder.
The football icon won 73 caps for Nigeria national team between 1993 and 2006, scoring 14 goals, and was a member of three FIFA World Cup squads.
Okocha is widely hailed one of the greatest football players from Africa.
In 1998, French PSG spent around 14 million Euros to sign Okocha to the team, making him the most expensive African player at the time.
Okocha, known for his skills, creativity, and exceptional playmaking ability, will be in the Maldives from July 03rd to 08th.
Throughout the visit, Okocha will participate in community initiatives and showcase the beauty of the Maldives to his extensive fanbase and PSG's followers worldwide.
Ooredoo Maldives will host an exclusive meet and greet session with Okocha, during which he will meet notable members of the Maldivian football community including current and former players and sports journalists.
He will also participate in a 6 on 6 futsal match against a team of Maziya players.
Maldives Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef will play alongside the football star and winners of the Play Futsal with Okocha social media contest.
Additionally, Ooredoo will host a two training sessions of PSG Academy in the Maldives for young footballers, with 2 PSG coaches from Qatar.
Okocha will be traveling to Laamu atoll to participate in the Ooredoo Maldives Fun Run - Laamu Edition scheduled for July 05th.
