MNU launches ‘InnovateHUB’

Maldives National University (MNU), on Thursday, has launched ‘InnovateHUB’ with the purpose of providing assistance and training students to incept new innovations and businesses.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, MNU’s Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz said students will be taught new skills and habits via the ‘InnovateHUB’ program.

As per Shehenaz, the program will be funded through sponsors.

The university is set to open proposals for students which Shehnaz says will be reviewed and provided funding.

Proposals will be allocated funding under three categories:

  • MVR 50,000 for small proposals
  • MVR 225,000 for medium proposals
  • MVR 500,000 for large proposals

Shehenaz noted that MNU’s staff will be training students under this program.

She cited collaborative efforts between the students, the society and MNU in the development of the nation as the purpose of incepting these new innovations and businesses.

MNU’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef who also spoke at the launching ceremony noted creating new jobs as one of the most crucial parts of national development and in this trajectory, said ‘InnovativeHUB’ can pave the way for new jobs within the businesses created by students under the program.
