The Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Bassam Adam, has been appointed as the interim in-charge of the state tourism board.
Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed Bassam's appointed as the temporary in-charge on Thursday on X.
The interim in-charge previously faced allegations of sexually harassing female employees of MMPRC. Although it was reported Bassam was suspended on April 02, it was later confirmed he stepped back on his own from his responsibilities back then.
While Bassam has been appointed to lead MMPRC, its Managing Director Fathmath Thaufeeq was terminated on Wednesday, which followed MMPRC Chairperson Aysha Nurain Janah's resignation earlier.
Meanwhile, local media outlets reported of tensions between the Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal and MMPRC executives due to various management issues of the tourism board.
Minister Faisal however, denied these rumors later.
Earlier, PCB had announced the dismissal of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO)'s CEO Ahmed Samah Rasheed and Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor.
In response to several high-profile dismissals, government on Thursday said the changes reflect its efforts to enhance the state's operations.
