Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced on Tuesday, the lessees who have rented plots in Thilafushi Phase 1 and 2 for industrial purposes, can apply for proprietorship of these lands.

HDC said interested lessees may write to the corporation to seek land ownership of these plots.

The corporation earlier on May 02, announced interested proponents to submit bids via HDC's portal for the plots.

HDC opened bids for a total of 108 unsold plots in Zone A - Area B for various commercial and industrial purposes. The plots included;

  • Type 1: between 2,500 and 4,999 square feet - 64 plots
  • Type 2: between 5,000 and 9,999 square feet - 42 plots
  • Type 3: between 10,000 and 14,999 square feet - 2 plots

Land sale from Thilafushi will be carried under two stages. Proponents are required to submit the Expression of Interest (EoI) letter at the first stage, and bids will be opened among the proponents seeking interest for the same plots during second stage.

Additionally, HDC has now opened land ownership opportunities for lessees who have rented plots from Thilafushi Phase 1. The opportunity only extends to lessees renting plots of 5,000 square feet and above.

Thilafushi is being expanded and developed as the primary commercial and industrial hub of Greater Male' Area. Industrial activities carried out in the island include cement manufacturing, gas refilling, vessel building and repairs, and other similar works.

Besides this, the government earlier announced the International Port will be shifted to Thilafushi to expand logistical operations including cargo clearance, warehousing and suppliying.

The ongoing Thilamale' Bridge project, which will connect Male' City with Thilafushi will enhance the industrial island's activities allowing easier transportation of goods to importers' warehouses and outlets.
