Local journalists to receive training in Pakistan

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has held discussions with the Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives on the possibility of training and capacity-building programs for Maldivian journalists through Pakistan educational institutions.

The meeting was attended by MMC’s President Ahmed Musthafa, members Mohamed Afrah and Ali Nishan and Secretary General Ibrahim Sameer alongside Pakistani High Commissioner to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Muhammed Fayyaz Gilani and Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad.

As per MMC, the meeting was a follow-up on the council’s interest in media professional capacity development expressed in January of last year, which yielded positive results.

In this regard, MMC said the High Commissioner confirmed that training visits for journalists are being arranged - expected to take place in June of this year. During these visits, delegates will be attending training in the field of journalism and media. They will also visit some of the leading media houses in Pakistan.

MMC added that the High Commissioner had also assured of his continued support in executing a Memorandum of Understanding between MMC and Pakistani Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for collaborations.
