Dhivehi Bahuge Academy (DBA) reports that the handwriting competition annually held by the academy in conjunction with Dhivehi Language Day received huge support this year as well.

The competition is held among employees of government institutions, independent institutions, local councils and state-owned companies.

Applications to participate in the competition have been opened online since 2022, DBA said, adding huge support is received from atolls for the competition every year.

The 2024 edition of the handwriting competition is held under two distinct categories; assessing neatness and 'Avas Thaana' (Cursive Thaana).

According to DBA, a total of 73 entities submitted applications at the expiration of the deadline to file applications for this year’s competition, including a total of 364 participants. Their details are as follows;

  • 19 councils
  • 29 schools
  • 7 ministries
  • 5 hospitals
  • 13 other entities

The top 10 submissions under each category under the competition would be selected, each set to receive a cash prize of MVR 500, certificates, and trophies.

The winning entity will receive trophies, certificates and prizes, the runners-up and third-place holder would receive certificates and prizes.

An entity is eligible to win collectively if it nominates a minimum of three employees to participate in the competition. However, employees can participate individually as well.

DBA cites the purpose of holding the competition as increasing interest and love towards Dhivehi Language and Thaana among employees in entities and to recognize and commemorate individuals who write well in Thaana.
