Actor Abdulla Muaz (Mua) has been elected chairperson of Maldives Film Association (MFA).

Applications for the post opened on last Tuesday following vacancy.

Only Mua had applied to the post by the deadline to file applications last Monday. Subsequently, MFA decided against holding the by-election for the post slated for May 16th, effectively confirming Mua’s election as the chairperson.

Mua had served as a senior executive director at the National Centre for the Arts (NCA) operated under the Ministry of Culture and Heritage during the former administration. During his spare time, he continued to undertake various works in the Maldivian film industry, behind the cameras.

The post of MFA’s chairperson became vacant following the death of Mohamed Nasheed who previously held the post. He was elected to the post during MFA’s general elections held on February 16th.

Actress Sheela Najeeb was elected the vice chairperson during the election. Board members were also elected to MFA during February’s election; Mohamed Afraah and Fathimath Zuhaira.
