A couple enjoying their honeymoon at a luxury resort in Maldives have been commended by local authorities for their bravery and quick thinking, after they rescued a staff member of the resort from drowning.
Newlyweds Jordan Daniel Van Dyk and Denielle De Bruyn are currently enjoying their honeymoon at the Dusit Thani Maldives, a luxury resort located in Baa Atoll.
Last Monday, they witnessed a staff member of the resort falling from a water villa deck into the ocean while on duty.
The staff member, identified only as a Maldivian citizen, was in a state of distress, struggling in the water.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Van Dyk and De Bruyn acted swiftly and courageously, coming to the aid of the drowning staff member.
On Friday, top police officials from Baa Atoll, including Baa Atoll Police Commander Afra Adam, visited the resort to present a token of appreciation to the couple.
In a statement on Saturday, the police said that their “bravery and rapid response undoubtedly averted what could have been a tragic outcome. “
“On behalf of the whole Maldives and Maldives Police Service, we express our profound gratitude to these two remarkable individuals whose valor and quick thinking saved a precious life,” said the police.
The police also extended appreciation to the management of Dusit Thani Maldives Resort, for their prompt action and support during this incident.
“Their coordination and assistance were instrumental in ensuring a swift and successful rescue,” said the police.
