The island of Shaviyani atoll Foakaidhoo has been flooded owing to heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
Foakaidhoo Island Council's President Ahmed Asif, while speaking with 'Sun' confirmed the island flooded from the heavy rain that had started close to an hour and half back.
The lowest point of the island has been heavily flooded due to the rain, Asif added, while flood waters have entered into several local residences as well.
"We have received multiple reports of residences flooded with water, but so far we cannot confirm the exact number of residences that suffered floods," he added.
Meanwhile, the council, law enforcement authorities and locals are currently draining the water out of the island.
Asif added that the situation had not intensifed requiring residences to be placed at temporary shelters, but some residences report flood levels reaching between 1.5 to two feet.
The council president further noted the island was still experiencing rainfall.
Pictures shared from the island on social media showed multiple residences have been flooded already.
Maldives is experiencing varying degrees of rainfall across the country recently, while some flood cases have been reported from Male' City and other islands due to it.
Recently, over 40 residences suffered floods due to rainfall in Addu atoll Feydhoo as well.
