Chief of Defense Abdul Raheem retires after 39 years of service

The Chief of Defense Force, Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, has received an honorable discharge from military service upon reaching 60 years of age.

Abdul Raheem retired on Wednesday night, after 39 years of service in the military, in a ceremony attended by top officials, including Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon.

At the ceremony, Ghassan presented Abdul Raheem with a letter from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Commander-in-Chief, and a decoration board symbolizing his sincere service to the military.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chief of Defense Force, Brigadier General Ibrahim Hilmy presented him with a letter from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and a symbolic retirement card.

Abdul Raheem joined military service on February 18, 1985. Some of the roles he fulfilled include:

  • Chief of Defense Force
  • Vice Chief of Defense Force
  • Commander of multiple units
  • Co-commander
  • Commander of area command
  • Spokesperson of MNDF
  • Financial controller of MNDF

Abdul Raheem received 12 medals and 11 service ribbons over the course of his career. He also received a national award for service in 2021, upon completing 35 years of service.
