Justice Suood appointed to represent Supreme Court at JSC

Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood to represent the court at the Judicial Service Commission.

Justice Husnu Al Suood was appointed to represent the Supreme Court at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday.

At present, Supreme Court is represented at JSC by Justice Aisha Shujuoon who was appointed to the commission in December 2019. Her term is set to expire late this year.

Supreme Court, on Tuesday, said Justice Suood was appointed to represent the court at JSC following the resignation of Justice Shujoon from JSC’s membership. The court extended gratitude to Justice Shujoon for her service as a JSC member.

However, the court did not disclose the reason behind Justice Shujoon’s resignation.

Justice Suood has extensive experience in the legal and judicial sector, holding crucial posts over the years. He has served as a member of JSC prior to this, in 2010. He was appointed a Supreme Court justice in December 2019.

JSC is currently composed of:

  • Parliament speaker
  • A representative from the Parliament
  • A representative of the President
  • A Supreme Court justice
  • A High Court judge
  • A lower court judge
  • A representative of the general public approved by Parliament
  • Civil Service Commission’s President
  • Attorney General

The presence of politicians in the JSC often sparks allegations of political influence in decisions.
