The national airline, Maldivian, has threatened to sue the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) over the failure to settle over MVR 5 million in outstanding payments to the airline.

In a letter to the MDP on Wednesday, the airline said that the party owed MVR 5,629,861 in tickets and charter flight bookings.

Maldivian said that though both parties had agreed that the payment would be settled within 48 hours of the provision of service, MDP failed to pay the dues despite repeated letters.

The airline said it would file a lawsuit against MDP if the party fails to settle the payment by February 18.

The payments in question are for MDP’s trips during the 2023 presidential campaign.
