Two foreign vessels seized over attempt to illegally fish in Maldivian waters

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), on Friday, said they seized two foreign vessels on suspicions of attempting to illegally fish in Maldivian waters.

MNDF, in a post on X, said the two vessels are suspected of attempting to fish in the Maldives’ Special Economic Zone in violation of the regulations.

No further details were disclosed by the authority, including which nations the vessels belonged to.

In September 2023, five Sri Lanka vessels caught allegedly fishing in Maldives’ Special Economic Zone were seized and slapped with a fine of MVR 100,000.
