Main ruling PNC’s mayoral candidate Azima Shakoor says the development of Male’ will be obstructed if a candidate against the government’s development projects is elected during Saturday’s Male’ mayoral by-election.

PNC held a motorcycle rally in Male’ City on Thursday evening, to garner support for Azima. Speaking after the rally which was attended by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and the Special Advisor to the President Abdul Raheem Abdulla – Azima said there were candidates who are contesting for Male’ Mayor that are against the government’s projects.

“Two other candidates who are competing against me have very clearly opened the housing projects, which is our main issue. Two candidates have clearly said they were against it,” she said.

Azima stressed that if a mayor who will obstruct the works of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is elected, it in turn, will pose major obstructions to the development of Male’ City.

Speaking further, Azima said concerning things have been noted from some people, detailing it as some individuals speaking out against the government because of the animosity they have towards the government. She pointed the finger at the opposition MDP in this trajectory.

She said a war would need to be started if such an individual is elected during this election.

Azima added that it was not only the topic of development that should be discussed during this election, but also independence and nationalism.
