The motion of no confidence against the Speaker of Parliament, which was moved by MDP, will be on the agenda for a sitting that will be held tomorrow.

The sitting was scheduled to be held after MDP parliamentary group requested the Parliament to hold one for tomorrow.

Parliamentary Communications Director Hassan Ziyau told Sun that MDP PG has sent a request to the parliamentary office to hold a sitting. He also said that a sitting will be held tomorrow.

MDP PG has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a decision on how to proceed with the no-confidence motion against Nasheed.

In the petition filed by MDP they also asked for a ruling that no further sitting of the Parliament be held until the no-confidence motion against Nasheed is resolved.

The Supreme Court accepted the case last Monday and scheduled a hearing on it for next Monday. The hearing will be held between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm that day.

Three sittings of the no-confidence motion, signed by 49 MDP MPs, were scheduled for this week. However, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Eva Abdulla has called in sick for three days.

The party's PG leader and North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam had earlier said that the matter was filed in the Supreme Court because the parliamentary administration could not find a solution and the advice of another institution was needed. He further said that it is not bringing the courts under the power of the parliament.

He said MDP would abide by the decision of the Supreme Court.
