Majority Leader of Parliament Mohamed Aslam has stated today that MDP will cooperate with the new government, reaffirming they will remain a responsible opposition.
At a press conference at the parliamentary office today, Aslam said MDP would not do anything to obstruct or insult the new government. He said the party will assume its responsibility of holding the government accountable in a responsible manner.
“We will continue to be highly active as an opposition party. However, we will not do anything in Parliament with the intention of harassing, teasing or insulting the government,” Aslam said.
Aslam, who was the running mate for MDP's candidate in the presidential elections, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, said that the Parliament will continue to give their full cooperation in matters required by them.
“As a member of parliament and as a party, will provide the cooperation necessary to run the government. In this regard, we will give our full cooperation to the government in passing the budget, swearing in the president and other matters,” Aslam said.
He said the party would not hesitate to hold the government accountable even if they do cooperate with said government.
MDP now has a large majority in Parliament with 56 MPs. So, some allege that the parliament will throw various obstacles at the new government.
