Farhad appointed acting chief judge of Civil Court

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Farhad Rasheed as the acting chief judge of the Civil Court.

Wednesday’s decision came after the court’s chief judge, Ahmed Nimal Junaid, passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 36.

Nimal reportedly died of a heart attack.

He was having his dinner in his home in Male’ at around midnight Tuesday, when he suddenly collapsed.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Court officials said Nimal had gone to work on Tuesday, and showed no signs of illness.

His funeral was held at the mosque at the Hulhumale’ Cemetery, after the noon prayer.

Nimal was appointed to the Civil Court in March, and was promoted to the court’s chief judge in May, after the then-chief judge Abdulla Ali retired.

The Supreme Court has announced that the flag of the judiciary will fly at half-mast for three days, in mourning of his death.
