President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that people do not have the choice to go back to the injustice of the previous administration by voting for the opposition candidate, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, in this upcoming election.

President Solih visited R. Maakurathu on his first campaign visit today.

Noting that there are things to deeply think about before voting in the election, he said that a vote is a trust given to every citizen and so it's important to think deeply before voting.

He further said that there are two ideologies in Maldives, which are MDP and PPM. He said that the first thing to think about is what would happen to the country if people vote for PNC’s candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The injustice that fell on the country in the previous term was also faced by voting for the PPM, he said. President Solih said that if Muizzu is elected the country will fall back into that state once more.

“They are the ones that ruled from 2013 to 2018. We must remember and think about the terrible times that Maldives saw. If you vote for Muizzu, the PNC candidate, vote for him and if he wins we are again going back to that injustice,” President Solih said.

He said it is not a choice for the people and the country.

President Solih said that the level of support or lack of support for the other candidates is very clear from the islands. He

described voting for any of the other candidates as a 'wasteful vote'.

With that, he said that the only choice is to vote for him, to vote for MDP.

“There is no other way in this election. I can’t see any other option but to vote for MDP. If you vote for PNC the whole country is placed in ruin,” President Solih said.

Projects planned for Maakurathu in the second term:

  • Land reclamation and building housing units
  • Developing and paving roads
  • Establishing a sports complex
  • Building a multi-purpose hall in the school
  • Begin laboratory services at the health centre
