President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he has full confidence that there is no candidate contesting the presidential election who can govern better than him and that he guarantees the people of that same thing.

Speaking at a campaign rally in HDh. Neykurendhoo, President Solih said he ran for a second term because he believed in himself that he had the ability and confidence to govern.

He said the country will be developed in the second term the way people want as well.

“I am running for this position because I am sure that I will be able to do it with the help of Allah. I challenge everyone who has come out to contest me today to say that there is anyone who can rule this country better than me,” he said.

The President said he should be voted for for the development of the country and that any vote cast in his favour will not go to waste.

In addition, President Solih said that the big picture that is seen in the islands is the positive change that comes to every island.

He said that the question that arises with that is why the islands are starting to develop today and were not seeing any significant development before. President Solih also said that he could talk about building a port or a sewerage system on an island while staying in Male’ however, the plight of the people is known when you reach the village.

“When it comes to water and sewerage, how many islands in the country have been in that state of lack of water during Iruvai monsoon. No government has heard that in the past. How many islands in this country had to spend the night in total darkness due to power outages,” he said noting that past governments have all neglected these things.

President Solih said those who were in government that day and did not do it are still describing it as useless. While Water and sewerage are 'underground pipes' and they cannot be seen, they are very important, he said.

“Today they are coming out and saying that it is useless. Why should those things be done,” He said

He said the rival candidate wants to build tall buildings and make a show of it.

Projects planned for Neykurendhoo during second term:

  • Paving and developing roads
  • Allocate area for leisure swimming
  • Construction of a boat landing area
  • Building a youth centre
  • Building an indoor badminton court
