Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) which has formed a coalition with main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has described President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the only leader who can eliminate poverty from Maldives.

Speaking at Ufaavari Male’ campaign event held in Male’ City on Friday night – Siyam, who also serves as the parliamentarian for Meedhoo constituency, stressed the need to eliminate poverty from Maldives. He added that only President Solih can shape the nation toward this path.

He detailed that three main components were required to build an economy; vast land, large population and properly developed and established human resources.

Although the Maldives is a nation without the first two components – Siyam said the current administration’s free degree program has been developing human resources.

“In a matter of days, our young youth and children who are growing up will be engineers and scientists. People in professions who will earn maximum income are being developed. They will come and lead the nation. Will bring happiness and prosperity to the nation,” he said.

Siyam, citing the people need a leader who will sincerely economically empower the citizens, said President Solih fit the shoes.

“This can be accomplished by this huge coalition, our president,” he said.

He recalled the major setbacks the tourism sector, Maldivian economy’s backbone, had faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing Maldives have emerged as the top tourist destination at present after reopening the border.

Siyam said foreign nations had been seeking to know how the Maldivian economy was run during the pandemic, which he attributed to the wisdom of President Solih.
