Online re-registration for the upcoming presidential election has been extended until Wednesday.
Online re-registration for the election had been set to close at 00:00 hours Tuesday.
In a statement on Monday, the Elections Commission said the deadline has been extended until August 2.
Meanwhile, voters can continue to file re-registration forms in-person until Saturday.
This year marks the first time that voters have been allowed to re-register online. The EC has set up a special portal for the purpose.
The commission previously stated that voters who re-registered to vote in Male’ for the local council election do not need to re-register again.
Over 10,000 people have applied to re-register so far – just 42 percent of the 42,000 people the commission had expected to re-register.
280,000 people are eligible to vote in the election, which is scheduled to take place on September 9.
