Drugs worth MVR 3.6M seized

Maldives Customs Services has seized drugs that were smuggled into Maldives via courier. 

According to Customs, the items were found in a package that arrived from England to Maldives by courier. Authorities searched the package after suspicions were raised about its contents. 

Customs also revealed that after testing the items found in two of the packages, it was found to be positive for “Medrone”. Including the packages, the drugs weigh 2.020kg and it’s street value is estimated to be MVR 3.6 million. 

The items seized have now been handed over to Maldives Police Services for further investigations. 

Recently, various alternative methods are utilized to smuggle drugs into Maldives. Police statistics show that party drugs are mostly imported into the country through post.
