EC establishes National Complaints Bureau for Presidential Elections

The Elections Commission (EC) on Saturday established the National Complain Bureau to address complaints related to the upcoming Presidential Elections. 

This bureau is established in the Elections Center at Dharubaaruge, and will be receiving and addressing all election related complaints. 

According to EC, the bureau will be open from 0800 hrs to 1500 hrs everyday from Saturday to Thursday, and from 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs on Friday. 

Complaint forms will be available from the EC website, the Election Center, council offices of islands, as well as the election focal point offices within the atolls. 

Furthermore, EC noted that the forms will also be available from the focal points abroad. 

Deputy President of EC Ismail Habeeb said via Twitter noted that even though the bureau was set up, corruption cases regarding the election have to be submitted to the Anti Corruption Commission, and broadcasting related issues need to be sent to the Maldives Broadcasting Commission.

The Elections Commission has now opened candidacy for the presidential election slated for September 9, 2023. Candidacy will be open from 0900 hrs Sunday, July 23, to 1400 hrs on August 4.
