Urbanco has given 14 days’ notice to the tenants who merged two Hiyaa apartments following their failure to settle the fine.
The case was brought to media’s attention on May 5th. The tenants of both apartments were slapped with an MVR 100,000 fine each and ordered to restore the apartments back to their original structure within 10 days.
Urbanco, in a message to the media on Thursday, said neither of the tenants have settled the fine nor complied with requests to inspect the apartments following the expiration of the 10-day period. Therewith, the corporation said the tenants have been given 14-days’ notice to vacate the premise.
Photos of the merged apartments went viral on social media which showed that it had been renovated up to high standards.
The two apartments were merged by breaking down the wall separating the two apartments to transform the two two-room apartments into one four-room apartment.
Urban announced they will be taking action against Hiyaa tenants in violation of the stipulated regulations last February after taking note of various forms of violations that hinder other residents. Subsequently, the corporation carried out inspections to identify such violations.
These inspections revealed structural changes at some apartments, despite it being forbidden, among other types of violations. Urbanco said they are working on taking adequate action with respect to the violations taken note of during inspections.
Urbanco carries out intermittent inspections of Hiyaa apartments. They stressed lack of cooperation from tenants regarding violations noted during inspections despite being cautioned.
