Man receives home confinement for violation of monicon order

Criminal Court has sentenced a man to six months of home confinement for violation of a monitoring and control (monicon) order – issued for suspects in cases involving terrorism and violent extremism.

The court issued the sentence against Ahmed Rishwan, Garden House, Th. Thimarafushi, on Monday.

Under a monicon order issued against him by the High Court last year, Rishwan had been banned from leaving his home between 08:30 pm and 05:00 am.

He was charged with violation of the order for leaving his home at 10:11 pm on December 1, 2022.

Rishwan had pled guilty to the charge and signed a plea deal with the state, under which he agreed to a sentence of home confinement for one year.

Judge Mohamed Misbah found him guilty of the charge. The six months he spent in detention was treated as time served. He was sentenced to six months and 29 days in home confinement.
