Vice President Faisal Naseem, stressing increased accidents in the Maldives to levels never seen before, has urged the public to prioritize safety.

He made the appeal during the inauguration ceremony of primary healthcare in Faafu Atoll on Friday night.

Citing the issue to be of prominent concern, VP Faisal underscored the increase in dangerous marine accidents in addition to road accidents compared to before. He emphasized lack of care of safety see further fatalities in the future while there will also be an increase in the number of victims ending up disabled.

VP Faisal, stressing no human can buy good health even if they have billions of dollars, said there is no benefit if one does not take care of their own health.

“We need to significantly change our lifestyles to attain good health. It is not an easy task. However, non-communicable diseases in the Maldives have risen to concerning levels. These issues can only be brought under control by fulfilling social responsibilities,” he said.

VP Faisal went on to say that nothing can be achieved by sitting idly. He attributed the inauguration of primary health care in Faafu Atoll to the relentless work undertaken by Faafu Atoll Hospital’s employees.

He conveyed gratitude and praised all employees.

“I also request medias to further promote and create awareness among the public on attaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” he added.

VP Faisal, noting primary healthcare had been successfully implemented in the Maldives years ago, said the system needed to be reestablished once again as it had been diminished over lack of priority.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Health Minister Ahmed Naseem, Social Policy Advisor Musthafa Luthfee and WHO’s Representative to the Maldives Dr. Naazleen Anwar.
