Missing cargo boat sinks; crew rescued

Six people have been rescued from a cargo boat reported missing after departing to V. Atoll.

The cargo boat ‘Sawaaree’ was reported missing to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center on Thursday morning, after it departed from Male’ City to V. Atoll.

According to an earlier statement by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the boat’s last known location was pinned to the east of K. Atoll at 09:07 am Thursday, before it went dark.

The boat had been travelling with six people.

MNDF said all six people travelling on the boat had been rescued by the Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon.

They were spotted by an MNDF Dornier aircraft during an aerial search.

MNDF said that all six were taken on board the Coast Guard Ship Ghaazee.

MNDF said that according to the captain, the boat had sunk.
