One was critically injured in an accident at Fuvahmulah City on Saturday that occurred amid watercolor games as part of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Central North Fuvahmulah Councilor Mohamed Fikury told Sun that two people sustained injuries of various extents in the accident which took place at approximately 5:00pm on Saturday evening.
The accident was a result of the driver of the motorbike losing control of the vehicle after panicking when watercolor was thrown at the motorbike by a group of people playing watercolor games on the road as part of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Victims that sustained injuries in the accident have been identified as a 20-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man.
Mohamed Liraar, acting manager of Fuvahmulah Hospital, told Sun that the female victim, in critical condition, was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Liraar detailed that she had sustained brain injuries and was also bleeding from her ears.
Both victims were transported to Male’ for further treatment on a charted flight early Sunday morning.
While watercolor games are an integral part of Eid festivities in the Maldives – authorities have always urged the public to be mindful of people and their properties when carrying out such activities.
