Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) has ordered ECom Exchange MV Private Limited to cease the services of its streaming platform, ‘Baiskoafu’.

A letter signed by BroadCom’s Secretary General Mariyam Zeeniya sent to ECom Exchange on April 10th said its services qualified as rebroadcasting.

Citing Article 5 of the Rebroadcasting Act, the letter read that rebroadcasting services may only be provided in the Maldives by licensed parties.

Therewith, the company was instructed in the letter to cease channels rebroadcasted through ‘Baiskoafu’ effective immediately.

When questioned by Sun on the matter, a member of BroadCom said the company was instructed to cease the services of ‘Baiskoafu’ by an administrative error.
