Drugs worth MVR 6M seized from Pakistani passenger

Maldives Customs Service, on Thursday, announced the seizure of drugs worth MVR 6 million attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives by a Pakistani who traveled to the island nation from Pakistan. 

The drugs were discovered on a 53-year-old Pakistani man who traveled to the Maldives on Thursday from Karachi. He was questioned and searched due to suspicious nature of actions. 

Drugs believed to have been discovered on him during the search came back positive for heroine during the first phase of testing. 

Customs said the drugs weighed 4.98 kilos while its street value would exceed MVR 6 million. 

Both the passenger and the drugs have been handed over to the Police for further investigation. 

Customs also seized drugs worth MVR 9 million attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives by an Indian woman who traveled to the island nation from Ethiopia on Wednesday. 

Cocaine weighing 1.18 kilos and heroin weighing 4.2 kilos were seized from her handbag and luggage respectively. Combined, their street value is estimated at MVR 9 million.

The case is also under investigation by the police.
