President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states he had no interest in the political turmoil, and is solely focused in fulfilling his electoral pledges and enforcing his government’s manifesto.

He made the comment during a campaign rally in K. Maafushi on Monday night for Shaz Ibrahim, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate for the upcoming Guraidhoo parliamentary by-election.

Addressing the crowd, President Solih said that drowning in the political turmoil will leave him unable to fulfill his pledges to the people.

He said that his sole focus is therefore on fulfilling his pledges.

“I have made fulfilling my pledges my duty and responsibility. Taking a step away from the political turmoil, my sole main focus is to fulfill my pledges to the people,” he said.

President Solih said that it is also the focus of his whole administration.

“Standing here before you four years later, water and sanitation is complete in that island, the harbor is complete in another, electricity is being provided in another, a football field has been built in another, a volleyball court has been built…. An unquantifiable number of projects have been conducted,” he said.

“This is what we accomplished by stepping away from political turmoil and focusing on fulfilling our pledges.”

President Solih said he plans on continuing to convert the aspirations of the people in the form of a manifesto and work on fulfilling them. He said that he therefore has no interest in listening to political criticism and wants to continue fulfilling pledges.
