MRM accepts JP’s invitation for coalition talks

Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) on Thursday revealed that the party has accepted the invitation extended by Jumhoory Party (JP) to form coalition, and will be commencing discussions regarding it. 

JP’s presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim earlier this week, extended invitations to form coalition with the party for the upcoming Presidential Election.

Addressing this, MRM stated that they have decided to accept the invitation, and will be commencing discussions. However, a specific timeline was not revealed on when the exchanges will begin. 

Invitations were extended to:

  • Opposition coalition (PPM / PNC)
  • MNP
  • MRM 
  • Former AG Dr Mohamed Munavvar 
  • Former Home Minister Umar Naseer

So far, apart from MRM, no other party has accepted the offer from JP.

MRM has held discussions with MDP, JP and Adhaalath Party regarding the presidential elections. At the time, the party stated that will be holding further detailed talks with political leaders and parties. 

Notably, MRM remains the only political party that has yet to make a decision regarding contesting the Presidential Election slated for September 9.
