President Solih’s advisor heads to meet Qasim as Nasheed’s representative

Representatives of MDP's leader, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed travels to Sun Island Resort to meet JP's leader, presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s advisor Mohamed Shihab, on Thursday, traveled to Sun Island Resort to meet Jumhoory Party’s (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim as a representative of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s leader, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’ faction.

Sun has learned that Nasheed’s team traveled to Sun Island Resort to meet Qasim on Thursday.

Apart from Shihab, the team includes MDP’s deputy leader Mohamed Shifaz, who was dismissed from his post as a minister at the President’s Office on Wednesday, Hussain Amr Rashad, who was dismissed from his post as State Trading Organization (STO)’s managing director on Sunday, West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef and North Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef.

Although Shihab has been working as a representative of Nasheed, he has yet to be dismissed from his post as President Solih’s advisor.

Nasheed’s representatives are meeting JP’s presidential candidate Qasim to discuss drawing up an agreement regarding forming a coalition.

Representatives of Nasheed have met with JP on two separate occasions previously. Qasim’s meeting Nasheed’s representatives today in the capacity of JP’s presidential candidate. 

Nasheed, who lost MDP's presidential primary, has refused to back President Solih. He has been lobbying for Qasim to contest the election.
