Distribution of Saudi-donated 50-ton dates to begin on Sunday

Handover of Saudi Arabian donated dates to the Maldives in 2023.

Islamic Ministry states that the distribution of the 50 tons of dates donated to the Maldives by the government of Saudi Arabia will begin on Sunday.

The Ministry detailed that low-income households will be prioritized while distributing dates across Male’ area and atolls. Once each such household has been provided with one packet of dates, the remaining will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

After the distribution of one packet to each low-income household – there will be 26 packets remaining for every 100 households.

Date distribution will proceed from this Sunday to next week’s Thursday.

Islamic Ministry states that the distribution will proceed from 9:30am to 12:30pm on all working days at the lobby area of the Islamic Centre. They have instructed those visiting to collect dates to bring their national identity card.

Dates will be distributed in the atolls by the respective island councils based on the list of households forwarded to the Islamic Ministry this year.
