Jumhoory Party (JP) and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed’s ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’ faction have begun drafting a joint manifesto for the upcoming presidential election.
Following a meeting between JP and Nasheed’s faction at the JP headquarters on Wednesday night, West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef said the meeting focused on discussions regarding how both parties can collaborate in the election.
Hassan Latheef said that one of the decisions made at the meeting was to draft a joint manifesto.
Wednesday’s meeting was attended on behalf of JP by the party’s deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim, Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain, and former Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed.
The meeting was attended on behalf of Nasheed’s faction by Hassan Latheef and State Trading Organization (STO)’s Managing Director Hussain Amr.
Hassan Latheef said that they will hold more meetings in the future, during which they will hold more discussions.
Speaking to press, Ameen said that though President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had extended an invitation for a coalition, JP will make a decision after “thorough consideration of everything that happened during the current term”.
