Three judges have been cleared of misconduct following investigations by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

JSC had investigated two cases of misconduct against High Court Judge Hussain Shaheed, and one case of misconduct each against Criminal Court Judge Soffath Habeeb, and Civil Court Judge Mariyam Waheed.

JSC announced Tuesday that all three judges were cleared of wrongdoing during the commission’s meeting last Sunday.

The commission, while it confirmed it investigated two complaints of misconduct against Judge Hussain Shaheed, has not disclosed any details regarding either of the complaints.

Meanwhile, the complaint against Judge Soffath was that she failed to deliver the verdict within the legally mandated timeframe after the presentation of closing arguments in a case. JSC began investigating the case on November 10, 2022.

The investigation against Judge Mariyam followed the allegation she communicated with one of the parties involved in a case outside of the court, and violated court procedures.

JSC is currently investigating misconduct allegations against multiple judges.
