JP to dissolve leader position, elect a president

Jumhoory Party (JP) has decided to make major changes to its constitution and leadership, including dissolving the position of leader and electing a president.

A credible source confirms a motion was presented to amend the constitution to replace the position of leader with president during a council meeting Wednesday.

JP members are set to vote on the changes during its upcoming congress later February.

The source who spoke to Sun said that JP leaders were discussing proposed changes to the party’s constitution and regulations, and would share details with the press soon.

Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim has been JP’s leader since its founding. He will reportedly be running for the position of party president.

JP is scheduled to hold its congress from February 24-25.
