Acclaimed Maldivian litterateur, Abdulla Sadiq (Soadhube) has thanked the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), after the hospital allowed for the wedding of his son to be held there.

Soadhube fell ill and was admitted to IGMH just two weeks before his youngest son, Raufath Sadiq, who teaches Dhivehi language, was set to get married.

And so, IGMH hosted the couple’s wedding at Soadhube’s hospital room, on December 13.

IGMH shared a letter by Soadhube on Wednesday, in which he thanked the hospital their care and hard work.

The letter was dated January 3.

Soadhube, who is in his late 80s, joked that he deserved a frequent customer discount at this point.

“There isn’t a single room in this ward that I haven’t stayed in. I’m sure there are only a few nurses and doctors here who have yet to treat me. But unlike previous times, this time was different. This visit iwill be permanently engraved in my memory,” he said.

Soadhube said that he saw care to the level he had never before experienced from a hospital his whole life.

This time, I did not wish to go back home, he said.

“I thank the management of this hospital from the bottom of my heart, not just for the quick treatment, but also for allowing my youngest child to get married here,” he said.

Soadhube said that it is because of the healthcare providers at the hospital that he got to join in the happiness of seeing his youngest child get married.

“Words cannot express how grateful I am for everything you have done. All I can do at this age and health is to pray to Allah to bless you and the work you do. The smile you see on my face is all because of your hard work! You have no idea how much I love you!” he said.
