Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) to press corruption charges against Male’ City Council’s Secretary General Mujthaba Jaleel.
Charges are being sought against Mujthaba on allegations of committing an act of corruption while he served as the CEO of National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
ACC said that interior designing of floors from a building rented by NSPA was contracted to a private individual in violation of the regulations while Mujthaba was the CEO.
In this regard, they detailed that investigation uncovered quotations attached to a request letter sent by Mujthaba to Finance Ministry on awarding the interior designing to a private party comprised of quotations from businesses linked with each other.
Furthermore, ACC said that the investigation also uncovered that the quotations were from businesses linked to Mujthaba.
Therewith, ACC has requested PG Office to charge Mujthaba with obtaining undue benefit by misusing authority under Article 12 of the Anti-Corruption Act and providing undue benefit for a third party by misusing official capacity under Article 513 of the Penal Code.
