36 receive first ‘CGM Chef Awards 2022’

A total of 36 individuals on Saturday received the first ‘CGM Chef Awards 2022’.

The awards organized by the Chefs' Guild of Maldives (CGM) recognise outstanding talents in the fast-growing culinary industry of Maldives.

During the special ceremony held, awards were given in eight different categories. This includes young chefs, higher-level chefs and those who have been serving the industry for a long time.

The recipient of the first-ever Chef of the Year Award was Ahmed Maazim. Meanwhile, Chef Mahaa Naseer who was the first local to have received Master Chef status from the Chef Society of the World, was conferred the Outstanding Achievement Award.

The most prestigious awards of the night were given by President Ibrahim Mohmed Solih.

Meanwhile, awards such as the “Young Chef Award” and “Sou Chef Award” was presented by First Lady Fazna Ahmed.

Furthermore, memorial plagues were presented to individuals who contributed and aided in the promotion of the culinary industry. These were handed over to recipients by Minister of Tourism Dr Abdulla Mausoom.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of CGM Mariyam Nooradheen noted that Food and Beverage and Chefs largely contribute to the success achieved by Maldives in the tourism industry.

She added that the role of CGM’s role in bringing in more local chefs and developing them will be expanding in the future.

The CGM Chef’s Awards are to be held once every two years. Notably, for next year’s awards, expatriate chefs working the in Maldives can apply as well.
