Local fishermen on Saturday staged a protest voicing their concerns.
The protest was held at Laamu Atoll Maandhoo, where fishermen said that they did not receive payments from the Fisheries Complex on the island, for months.
Fishermen from Thaa Atoll and Laamu Atoll took part in the protest where they called to lower the prices of fuel and ice.
Additionally, they called to for instant payment after weighing the catch instead of a slip.
The men were trying to meet with the owners of the Fisheries Complex.
“We tried calling over the phone. But did not receive a response. We have been talking about this for a long time now. Talking has not resolved this issue at all,” said a protester who participated.
The protesters said that they will stay until they get answers.
So far no response has been received from Maandhoo over this.
