Maldives Police Service, on Friday, has announced that a joint counter-terrorism operation with Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) is underway at the sea territories of both Male’ City and Addu City.

Although they have not disclosed any further information regarding the operation, Police said that more information will be disclosed as the operation progresses.

A group of people was arrested in Addu City back in March of this year, on suspicions of conspiring an act of terrorism.

In July, Police and MNDF cordoned off two areas in Male’ City in a joint operation, with officers patrolling both areas with weapons. No details regarding the operation have been disclosed to date.

However, joint operations by Police and MNDF are usually initiated over bomb threats.
