HPA warns over increased cases of three diseases including Covid

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has warned over the increased number of cases of fever, influenza and COVID-19 reported across the Maldives recently, advising the public to exercise caution.

In a statement on Tuesday, HPA said that statistics by the agency show an increased report of diseases such as fever, influenza and COVID-19 from across the nations.

They detailed that 185 COVID-19 cases were reported in September, with the figure rising to 328 cases in October.

HPA also emphasized on the emergence of new variants of COVID-19 across the globe.

Therewith, they have advised everyone to always take precautionary measures in order to ensure the good health of one’s self, their families and society.

In their statement, they highlighted precautionary measures that can be taken to protect one’s self from COVID-19, and influenza.

In this regard, HPA recommended getting tested as soon as possible if showcasing symptoms of flu; wearing masks, properly covering both nose and mouth, social distancing in public and frequently washing hands, or sanitizing.

They advise against going to crowded places if showcasing symptoms of flu, and urged high-risk people to get vaccinated for Influzena and COVID-19. They stressed on the importance of eligible persons getting booster shots as well.

HPA advised those showcasing flu symptoms to keep their distance from high-risk people, and to make hospital visits with as less companions as possible. They also highly urged children, elderly and pregnant women to avoid hospital visits, unless necessary.
