As Maldives marks the 50th anniversary of its tourism sector, otherwise known as Tourism Golden Year, the island nation has set a new record for the highest number of tourist arrivals in an October.
The newest record was announced by the Tourism Ministry via a Tweet on Monday. In this regard, Maldives saw over 153,600 tourist arrivals this October, with October 22 marking the most number of arrivals in a single day in the month, being 6,810. The average duration of stay during the month stood at 7.7 days.

In their tweet, the Ministry also congratulated industry partners, staff, and other stakeholders.
Tourism Golden Year's October arrivals mark an eight percent increase compared to that of 2019, and 2021.
Total tourist arrivals for October 2019 were 141,928 - while October 2020 saw only 21,515 arrivals in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
By the end of October in Tourism Golden Year, Maldives recorded a total of 1,340,031 tourist arrivals.
India tops the list in regards to the most tourists arriving from a country this year, with 14.2 percent of total arrivals. Russia comes second with 12.2 percent and the United Kingdom a close third with 10.9 percent.
As the holiday season starts in full swing, tourist arrivals to the Maldives is expected to see a further hike.
