Workshop on updating the roadmap of Maldives’ energy sector commences

Environment Ministry, on Sunday, has commenced a stakeholder workshop for updating the roadmap of Maldives’ energy sector.

The Ministry will discuss updating the roadmap of Maldives’ energy sector with stakeholders during this workshop being held with technical expertise from Asian Development Bank (ADB) and International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Environment Ministry explained that the upgraded roadmap will be formulated so that it may be utilized to reach the goals set by Maldives to achieve in the field of energy by 2030, based on government policies and strategic action plan.

“The upgraded roadmap will aid in the further development of the energy sector, and pave way for a renewable energy sector,” they had said.

They also noted that the map will include information regarding various renewable sources which can be possibly be used in the production of energy and information regarding actions that can be taken to reduce waste of energy.

Underscoring that Maldives aims to become a net-zero carbon emission nation by 2030, Environment Ministry said that ADB assumes a prominent role in increasing the generation of electricity through renewable sources, and further developing this domain. They named Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development (POISED), a project being carried out with ADB’s assistance, as an example of this.
