State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has cut off power for the building which houses Football Association of Maldives (FAM) over nonpayment of pending bills amounting to MVR 6.5 million.

In a statement on Sunday, the utility company stated that FAM had been served notice on multiple occasions over the nonpayment of pending bills amounting to MVR 6.5 million. They also noted FAM had been provided a number of chances to submit a payment plan to settle the bills.

STELCO said power has been cut from FAM House at present, as a result of no action despite repetitive chances and notices.

The utility company stressed that they are considering cutting power from additional buildings belonging to FAM, if the pending bills remain unsettled.

When contacted for statement on Sunday evening, FAM’s Secretary General Hussain Jawaz told Sun that he had no comment regarding the matter at the moment. However, he added that FAM will be issuing a press statement regarding the matter shortly.
