Responding to questions regarding Shiaau’s murder, Head of Serious and Organized Department, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Saeed said that the investigators believed the murder was more likely a sudden incident that pre-planned.
Police brief the press on the case of Mohamed Azhan, 27, who was found dead in Hulhumale’ two weeks after he was reported missing.
Police said preliminary autopsy findings showed Azhan did not sustain any significant injuries to his body.
Police also said that the photo being circulated claiming to be that of Azhan is a fake photo, and part of a scam.
Police believe Shaahil committed the murder alone.
Head of Serious and Organized Department, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Saeed states the police have opened Shaahil’s phone, and believe they can uncover the motive with the data retrieved from the phone.
Basheer said the police were trying to establish a motive for the murder.
Basheer said preliminary findings of the autopsy show Shiaau injuries were deliberately inflicted.
The findings also show Shiaau sustained multiple injuries – some of which were inflicted after her death.

Basheer said the case will be sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for charges against the suspect - Ali Shaahil, 22 – within the next two weeks.

He said that Ali Mohamed’s account, including regarding the purpose of the trip and the location where the boat capsized, do not correspond with investigative findings.

Minhaj went missing on October 6. The speedboat he was travelling on with another young man was found capsized off AA. Maalhos on October 7.
