SSL begins campaign in MNU students’ name to help flood ravaged Pakistan

Society of Sharia and Law (SSL), a wing of Maldives National University’s (MNU) student union, on Monday, commenced a special campaign to raise funds for the victims of flood-ravaged Pakistan in the name of MNU students.  

The campaign titled ‘Help Pakistan’ was inaugurated during a special ceremony held at MNU by the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives Zulqurnain Ahmad.

Five fund boxes will be placed under this campaign; two boxes in MNU Central and one box each at Business School, School of Nursing and the area Futsal Fiesta is ongoing.

Commenting regarding the campaign commenced today to raise funds for Pakistan – SSL’s media coordinator, one of the people heading the campaign, Ismail Razeen told Sun on Monday that the campaign will continue until October 23.

“The purpose of the campaign is to provide all possible assistance to the citizens of a fellow Muslim country, as they live in difficult conditions,” he added.

Razeen detailed that although five fund boxes are being placed initially, discussions were underway to place additional fund boxes at MNU campuses in atolls.

SSL’s President Ahmed Sadhoof Moosa who also spoke to Sun underscored the cooperation rendered by MNU’s student union and senior management for the campaign from day one.

“This campaign is being carried out with a lot of support from them. Hence, there is hope that the campaign will be well-received,” he added.

MNU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shareef also talked to Sun regarding the campaign. He expressed utmost happiness over the fact the MNU students initiated such an event.

“Such activities showcase the moral values we must have. Each university leaver must have these characteristics,” he stressed.

Shareef also added that he hopes the campaign is well-received.

The monsoon rains and flooding, which many experts say are fueled by climate change, have affected 33 million people across Pakistan and claimed over 1,500 lives. With two million homes across the country damaged or destroyed, about half a million flood survivors are homeless, living in tents and makeshift structures.
