Maldivian first couple attend Cancer Society's fundraiser, launch awareness campaign

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have inaugurated the cancer awareness campaign organized by the Cancer Society of Maldives.

The campaign was launched during a fundraising gala dinner – an annual event – held at Hotel Jen Maldives on Tuesday evening.

This year’s gala night also celebrated Cancer Society of Maldives’ 10th anniversary.

At the gala, six recipients – three individuals and three companies - were conferred the society’s outstanding contribution award. The award to the three individuals were presented by the President, and the award to the other three companies were presented by the First Lady.

They then inaugurated the cancer awareness campaign, and participated in the ‘Let’s Get Active’ movement.

The gala dinner night is an annual event organized by the Cancer Society of Maldives to raise funds for cancer screenings and to raise awareness about early detection, diagnosis, and screening in order to promote healthier lifestyles.

Cancer Society of Maldives states it aims to contribute towards the wellbeing of the community by creating awareness about cancer, providing support and circulating information and resources to elevate the experience of people fighting cancer. They also give priority to conducting cancer research and creating a cancer patient registry database in Maldives.
